FRIDAY DECEMBER 20, 2002

VALUE STREAM MAPPING
As the first step in response to the "Future of Incentives" question tabled by NAMMU, Canada Post will co-chair a National Information Workshop on current state and FUTURETHINK for the Lettermail and Addressed Admail products. NAMMU now needs a representative group of members to form part of the joint work group with regional and national Canada Post representatives.

The first session will be held in Toronto by end January 2003. Please contact executive@nammu.org if you are interested, no later than January 10th. Meeting specifics will be provided at that point as well as value stream mapping principles.

NCOA "OPT OUT" RATES SOARAs consumer "opt out" rates continue to soar, NAMMU has not been idle. Proposed new wording for the "change of address notification" form has been submitted to Canada Post; assessment of the SMART MOVES publication accompanying the form is well underway; and an "after event" proposal to recapture legitimate customers lost through the current "opt out" wording will be tabled in January with the Address Management team.

Business has a lot at stake:

bullet
Redirection is costly and will be reflected in the rates
bullet
Early NIXIE advice is critical but still costly to the mailer
bullet
Business is losing access to its legitimate customers
NAMMU has asked to be part of any decision process going forward on the NCOA Program. Contact executive@nammu.org to participate on the task force.

OUT OF SORTS
Customers have been checking with their vendors about renewal of the sortation software "recognition" which was scheduled to expire in October. The current sortation software has been extended to March 2003.

At issue, however, are potential changes to sortation for Publications Mail and possibly Addressed Admail. NAMMU applauds the consultation that Canada Post has had with some customers, however, does not think it is broad enough to be conclusive. The Association has recommended the various consultation "silos" be linked and draft specifications provided for comment. NAMMU also suggests that the current March sortation "recognition" be extended to cover both consultation as well as other lead times: Software developers need six months' lead time; customers require one to six months (and sometimes longer depending on the change) to install, test and implement. July/August 2003 is a more likely target for change. Concerns: executive@nammu.org

CHARGES DROPPED
Canada Post is notifying customers of several payment changes: The $5.00 fee for manual manifest entry has been waived until further notice; customers settling their accounts using pre-authorized payment, can access credit terms of net 15 days from the date of invoice. Application forms are on line at www.canadapost.ca/pad

Reminder: January 13th marks the date when a late payment fee will apply to all overdue accounts.
