POLITICAL APPOINTMENTS
The Honourable Stan Keyes (Hamilton West) was appointed Minister
responsible for Canada Post Corporation on December 12th. Mr. Keyes
will also serve as Minister of National Revenue and Minister of State
(Sport). In Crown Corporation policy impact changes, the Honourable
Lucienne Robillard moves from the Treasury Board to the Industry
portfolio; the Honourable Helene Chalifour-Scherrer has been given the
Canadian Heritage portfolio. Small Business will be handled by several
Parliamentary Secretaries within the PMO, all reporting directly to
the new Prime Minister.
AIP UPDATE
The Quebec City Chapter (via Gaston Bouchard) and Toronto Chapter (via
Leigh-Anne Stanton) each actively participated in an update on the
Address Improvement Project (AIP), as well as clarification of the
Address Accuracy statement requirement.
Key points highlighted:

*Results of the initial PEI launch November 10th. Saskatchewan
data will be available mid-January. Balance of provincial scheduling
should be ready end January.

*PEI lessons learned are assisting the rollout to Saskatchewan

*Format of the data files has not been changes (i.e. remains in
ranges)

*Commitment made to mailing industry to explore together the
benefits of moving data from ranges to point-of-call.

*One minimum and maximum suite range per building is being
provided, not separate records per floor
NAMMU will continue the monthly AIP meetings to assist
implementation and work toward a win-win outcome for this critical

AIP UPDATE
ADDRESS ACCURACY
In response to NAMMU concerns regarding the impact of the AIP data
changes, Canada Post will:

*Maintain the customers current AA rating until December 31,
2004, if it meets or exceeds the 95 % standard for AA as of November
15, 2003. i.e. your AA statement must be currentand dated any time
up to and including November 15, 2003. (See AIP UPDATE link above

NATIONAL MSP COUNCIL LAUNCHED
NAMMU launched the new MSP (Mail Service Provider) Council November 17
as a national initiative designed to bring more focus, relationship
clarity with Canada Post and business opportunities to this important
sector of the mailing industry. Conservative estimates indicate this
sector is responsible for >50 per cent of CPC sales revenue. The first
Council chair is Laura Artibello, President, Mailennium. Any MSP is
welcome to join this Council by contacting :
