A CELEBRATION OF THE
BEST OF MAIL
The Design Exchange was alive with
excitement on November 2nd as the “A List” of the Canadian
mailing industry walked the red carpet at the first major awards
event of the season to celebrate the winning entries in the 2005
NAMMU Awards. The NAMMU’s annually celebrate excellence in the
dominant use of the mail channel and are now established as a
gala networking opportunity for all sectors of the industry and
its many supporters.

THE
ROYAL TREATMENT
Mardi Gras reigned at the Prince
Hotel November 17th, as Royal Envelope feted its customers and
business colleagues at a cocktail reception and charity casino
night. The buffet featured New Orleans cuisine, and when the
Blue Brothers took the stage (AKA Lou and The Lickers) the
ambience was complete and audience approval rating soared even
higher. Click on the Royal logo and catch this (almost) all
industry band in action: Coverall Computer Services Corp.: Rob
Wessel, Pierre Lavallee; Media Vision: Cathy Baron; Heart &
Stroke: Tony Carpino; LIFE (The Band): Chris Martino; Starline
Industries: Lorraine Morgan; Royal Envelope: Richard Turcotte,
Lou Tucci.
HIGH
DENSITY – LOW PRIORITY?
Some high density Lettermail users
are still scratching their heads following the news product
strategy and specs for 2006 will not change, despite the clear
signal given last year that mailers would be provided a new sort
option to evaluate by January 2006. So what’s happening? The
lack of clarity and the one-sided rationale for rate increases,
product spec changes, imposition of new work processes at will,
the formulaic responses from government and Canada Post on the
lack of involvement by business stakeholders in the forward
planning and change process, still confound the mailing
industry. Positive steps are being taken through the JUST SAY NO
program and Impact 2006 Forums, to address with Canada Post and
government the imbalance in the current business model. In the
meantime, don’t try reverting to full rate with no sort or prep
work: one CGA (Canadian Gas Association) member was told the
weight allowance would then be reduced from 50g to 30g. These
topics (and more) will be front and centre with discussion
leaders at YOU vs Inefficiencies on December 6th.

NPD
ACQUIRES CANADIAN TRACKING BUSINESS
The NPD Group, a global provider
of consumer and retail information, reports the purchase of
ACNielsen’s Canadian information technology tracking business.
NPD will now offer both retail and commercial sales tracking of
computers in Canada, as it does in the United States.
SUPREMEX – POTENTIAL SALE
At the close of trading November
2nd, the Chairman and CEO of the Supremex parent company, Cenveo,
announced to the public market that Cenveo will evaluate “…the
sale of our Canadian operations.” According to the customer
letter released by Stewart Emerson, Vice-President & General
Manager, Supremex Inc., this announcement in no way affects the
stability or the day-to-day operations of Supremex. According to
Emerson, by design Supremex has maintained a very distinct
identity, business philosophy and culture. It is “business as
usual” at Supremex, and customers are invited
to discuss any questions they have with Stewart Emerson or any
other Supremex representative.
