CANADA POST RE-STRUCTURES
The last few weeks have seen a number of departures from Canada
Post, many of whom were close contacts with the industry.
Regrettable as this is, 2009 has not been a forgiving year for
anyone in the mail business, and “right sizing” to meet anticipated
workload and volumes has become the norm. Recently, a senior
management re-structuring was implemented at Canada Post, that
reflects four specific business priorities:
• Expanding and integrating the customer experience;
• Fully integrating all employee-facing functions
• Better aligning the size of the management team to the current
outlook of mail volumes and operations;
• A renewed view and direction on revenue diversification and
growth.
Louis O’Brien is now the Senior
Vice-President, Chief Customer Officer. This newly- created role
will more efficiently integrate and leverage all major customer
sales channels including Retail, e-Channel Delivery, Call Centres,
and Order Acceptance.
John Duncan is now Senior Vice President, Human Resources. Mary
Traversy is now Senior Vice-President, Transaction Mail.
Pre-announced retirements include: Stewart Bacon, Chief Sales and
Marketing Officer, in March 2010; and Robert Waite, Senior
Vice-President, Corporate Social Responsibility.

INDUSTRY AND CANADA POST DELIVER GREEN SALES TOOLS
In collaboration with the Envelope Manufacturers Association (EMA)
the Canada Post Lettermail team developed a “Green Lettermail Sales
Sheet” to equip their Sales Team with true, positive messages
regarding the value of Lettermail, and the sustainable nature of
physical mail. The headline: GIVE LETTERMAIL THE GREEN LIGHT, sums
up the focus – and the sales tag - Lettermail lets you push the
envelope with a big ROI and a small footprint. - is the statement of
responsible support the industry has been asking of their major
supplier.

Canada Post GO GREEN WITH YOUR MAIL program, online at
www.canadapost.ca/green Long acceptance by NAMMU members that
the practice of taking green initiatives is a respected – and
expected – business practice by their customers, drove the creation
of the NAMMU Environmental Awards in 2006, to honor those businesses
who inspire us to raise the bar even higher. The 2009 NAMMU
Environmental Award for Best Management Practices, is Canada Post
Corporation for their 2008 Social Responsibility Report, Making the
Connection. When presenting the award to Robert Waite, Senior
Vice-President, Social Responsibility, at the 2009 NAMMU Awards,
November 4th, NAMMU President, Kathleen Rowe said: “Canada Post
Corporation touches every Canadian with our mail. By launching this
annual Social Responsibility Report, Canada Post assures Canadians
of environmentally friendly practices – an important statement of
accountability from our major supplier.”
NCOA PROGRAM UPDATES
Several key changes are being implemented for NCOA, and NAMMU
members are invited to consult their NCOA licensee for full details.
These changes include:
• NCOA data will be expanded to six years from the current three
years effective with the January 15, 2010 cycle. It will be optional
for licensees until March 15, 2010, at which time all licensees must
use the six year data.
• Change of address notification (COAN) consent form wording has
been modified effective immediately. The new consent is shorter and
more clearly informs customers that the information will be used to
update lists. The new COAN is already in distribution and replaces
the old one as supplies diminish. It is anticipated the old form
will be completely out of use within six months.
• With this new COAN wording (and retroactively) NCOA users may
update the address on their lists provided they have a business
relationship with the recipient, as defined within PIPEDA (18 month
rule) – prospect lists or any lists where there is no business
relationship may still only be updated for mailings.
