IT CAN BE DONE
To mark the third anniversary of the Honorable Andre Ouellets term as
President and Chief Executive Officer of Canada Post Corporation,
NAMMU chose to convey full, unqualified support of a renewed contract
and term to the Minister of Transport and Minister responsible for
Crown Corporations, the Honorable David Collenette.
Excerpts from the NAMMU Presidents letter
underscores Mr. Ouellets very successful long term relationship with
Canadas national distribution and communications system:
-
Our members believe Canada Post has achieved a
level of business stability unparalleled to date, under the
leadership of the Hon. Andre Ouellet, and this despite the
unparalleled challenges facing the Corporation. Mr. Ouellets vision,
leadership, ethics, integrity, business, political and human skills
are vital in the coming years. His passion for the Corporations
success is balanced when establishing the platform and momentum for
growth with a firm understanding of the Corporations history,
because he lived it.
-
-
We strongly support the renewal of Mr. Ouellets
mandate and respectfully request the Minister take this into
account. The Honorable Andre Ouellet is successfully achieving what
many said could not be done. NAMMU believes the next few years
demand stablity, continuity, vision, balance, ethics, a passion for
business excellence. Canadians would be fortunate indeed if Mr.
Ouellet accepted a long term mandate.

PUBLICATIONS MAIL
NAMMU has requested a complete update and immediate involvement in the
Workgroup and Steering Committee activities of the cost saving task
force on Publications Mail. Members contacting NAMMU as a result of
the Electronic RTStopic (see eView October 23) demanded an update and
representation by the Association. One member pointed out that Canada
Post employees were asked to contribute ideas (Performance Magazine
Sept/Oct 2002) and remarked that ... this type of inclusive idea
generation is fantastic and Canada Post is certainly trying to involve
the right people. The only objection stated was the lack of information
available to potentially impacted publishers. Contact:
executive@nammu.org if you wish to be added to the list of
recipients receiving updates.
LABOR
Formal negotiations will shortly be underway between Canada Post and
CUPW (Canadian Union of Postal Workers). Dialogue and joint workshops
on troublesome issues have been ongoing since the last contract came
into effect. Without lessening the importance and difficulty of the
issues involved in the negotiation, both parties anticipate a
negotiated settlement. NAMMU emphasizes the need for a positive,
negotiated settlement between the parties, without using the media as
a bargaining tool. Any instability, perceived or real, immediately
puts business in jeopardy, loses ground with Canada Posts current
customers, and definitely imperils new ventures.
20th ANNIVERSARY
The NAMMU Special Events Team is planning a number of activities to
mark the Associations 20th anniversary in 2003. One of them is a cash

2003 special anniversary event. (All entries will be acknowledged, and
several runner upprizes may be awarded at the judges discretion.)

reasonable to implement, meaningful and relevant to the membership
(this in no way rules out funevents), and received no later than
December 5th at:
general@nammu.org the winner(s) will be announced by
December 14th and the cheque awarded just in time for holiday
