Canada Post Corporation recently advised there will be no increase
to the domestic basic letter rate in 2008. Price changes for the

VAM COUNCIL PRIORITIES
The NAMMU VAM Council under the chairmanship of Laura Artibello,
Mailennium, will remain active throughout the summer months. The
June 14 follow-through by Canada Post Corporation on issues raised
at the joint workshop in February, as well as several new ideas, was
welcomed and praised by participants for the open dialogue. All
NAMMU VAM members have received a copy of the notes from the session
as well as the presentations made.
A NAMMU members only session will be scheduled
shortly to update members, seek input for action, on key issues:
MERX RFP for US Direct Entry Letter Post; Recommendation by the
Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities,
that Government should direct Canada Post to either discontinue,
withdraw or consent to a judicial stay of proceedings in respect of
allegations or judicial findings that entities have or continue to
violate the exclusive privilege in Section 14 of the Canada Post
Corporation Act with respect to letters intended for delivery
outside of Canada, until the Committee conducts its review of
Section 14 by end of 2007; NAMMU Booth at DMA Exhibition, Chicago.
All members are welcome to attend and will be notified of venue and
timing.
2007 MAGS U MAILING CLINIC A HIT WITH DELEGATES
Traffic at the main NAMMU booth was strong, encouraged by samples
and literature provided by many NAMMU members of winning concepts of
interest to the publishing community and eco-friendly initiatives.
Of particular interest was the Publications Mail Wish List put
forward by Jim Wiseman, Transcontinental – RBW, Owen Sound, which is
being used as the agenda for discussion by the Publications Mail
Council. Several mailers suggested additions and the list is a work
in progress. The DOC’s at the NAMMU MAILING CLINIC were all
dedicated NAMMU members, taking the time to assist new and
established mailers and publishers on matters of postal interest.
This year’s DOC’s: Jim Wiseman (Transcontinental); Al Blackman and
Jim Hill, (Wood & Associates Direct Marketing Services); Laura
Artibello (Mailennium.) Another successful year at MAGS U supporting
our publishing sector and we thank our volunteers, and members who
stopped by to chat.
