OVERVIEW – MSP/SALES CHANNEL MANAGEMENT
Earlier this year, Patrick Bartlett, General Manager,
MSP/Sales Channel Management, met with the Montreal Chapter
members to introduce himself and provide a high level overview
of his new role and plans. He is still putting his team and
plans together, however, at least two of his initiatives
resonate positively with NAMMU members: the development and
criteria for a partnership program; and recognition of the VAM
sector value in plans to grow the business. Learn more:

2007 ANNUAL REPORT TABLED IN PARLIAMENT
In its 2007 Annual Report tabled April 28th in Parliament,
Canada Post Corporation reported its thirteenth consecutive year
of profit for its Group of Companies. The Corporation recorded a
consolidated net income of $54 million for the fiscal period
ended December 31, 2007, down 54.3 per cent from $119 million in
2006. Return on equity was 3.7 per cent. The Corporation will
make an annual dividend payment at the rate of 40 per cent of
net income to its shareholder, and is expecting to pay a
dividend of approximately $22 million to the Government of
Canada in 2008. Transaction Mail volumes decreased by 1.6 per
cent year over year, adjusted for trading days. Marc Courtois,
Chairman of the Board of Directors, noted “I am convinced that
we have the committed management team and dedicated employees
needed to continue to operate successfully.” After noting that
high employee commitment to deliver the best products and
services to Canadians is truly the foundation of Canada Post’s
success, Canada Post President and CEO, Moya Greene, said “It is
clear, however, that 2008 will be equally as challenging as
2007, if not more so.”
As previously reported, the
Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister responsible for Canada
Post, announced the government of Canada will conduct a
strategic review of Canada Post Corporation, guided by
established terms of reference. The review will focus on four
major areas: market and competition; public policy objectives
and responsibilities; commercial activities; financial and
performance targets. NAMMU members have a vital interest in this
review, and their business interests will be tabled in the NAMMU
brief submitted to the advisory panel.
