GST CUTS: BUSINESSES CALL FOR TIME
NAMMU and many business organizations are calling on the federal
government to give businesses time to adjust to the proposed GST
cut. Ranging from one to three months, these adjustment timing
requests will enable the necessary updates to cash registers,
pre-authorized and other payment transactions, price lists and
business transaction materials. According to some reports, some
small and mid-size businesses have also requested compensation
for any implementation costs.
QUEBEC CITY MUNICIPAL AMALGAMATIONS
Since 2003, 55 Quebec municipalities have merged into 15, five
amalgamations will take place in 2006, with an estimated 30-40
more to come. Driven by municipalities, there will be an
estimated >120,000 addresses impacted. As part of the Toronto
Chapter, X-TREME ADDRESS MANAGEMENT executive briefing, Zelko
Odorcic and Joel Brown, Nova Marketing Group Inc., presented
several impact examples – most with both civic address and town
name changes. Canada Post is supporting the address management
requirements for business, and has developed realistic tools to
deal with the changes. Gaston Bouchard, Address Management,
alerted participants to the particular challenges involved with
these amalgamations, and reminded interested mailers of the
Canada Post Municipal Amalgamation Data Product. This product
offers mailers the new addresses for municipalities that are
amalgamating, and the data cross references the old and new
addresses.
